War Child Ireland was established in 2003 and is part of the War Child International Organisation. War Child Ireland is run by a voluntary board and the main objectives of the charity are:

• To bring relief to children anywhere in the world who are suffering hardship, sickness or distress as a result of war
  
• To advance the education of the public in the effects of war and especially the effects of war on children.

War Child Ireland supports and funds War Child’s international work which currently includes projects in The Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq and Afghanistan. War Child is the only international child protection agency currently working with street children in Southern Iraq, the only international organisation working with child prisoners in western Afghanistan, the only international agency working with child soldiers in northern Democratic Republic of Congo.
